North Mississippi Medical Center-Iuka is a not-for-profit, 48-bed general acute care hospital affiliated with one of the nation’s leading health care organizations. NMMC-Iuka offers the following services: full laboratory, clinical pharmacy, radiology, rehabilitation and respiratory therapy.

NMMC-Iuka has a five-member governing board that is actively involved in daily activities and decision-making processes at the hospital.

Award-Winning Quality

NMMC-Iuka is the recipient of two VHA Leadership Awards, honoring the hospital for meeting or exceeding national performance standards for clinical care and quality. NMMC-Iuka is the only hospital in Mississippi to have received these national awards for clinical excellence and patient satisfaction.

VHA serves more than 1,400 not-for-profit hospitals and more than 24,000 non-acute health care organizations nationwide. NMMC-Iuka was one of only 38 VHA member organizations to receive a 2009 Leadership Award for Clinical Excellence.

The VHA Clinical Excellence Award for the Patient Experience honors hospitals that achieved high scores in all six of these categories:

Inpatient Services


Inpatient care includes 24 hour direct patient care with multi-disciplinary services, including: nursing, radiology, laboratory, ultrasonography, nuclear medicine, CT, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, food and nutritional services, and social services. Spiritual assistance is also available 24 hours a day through a volunteer chaplain program staffed by volunteer local pastors. Specialties available for consult include orthopedics, pulmonology and urology.


The hospital also has 10 certified swing beds for patients who need extended care based on availability and resources. The two most common reasons for admission into swing bed are rehabilitation services (see rehab services page) and long term IV antibiotic therapy. Each referral to swing bed is reviewed on a case by case basis.

Nursing care at NMMC-Iuka is based on a team approach. Each of the nursing staff members are trained and maintain competency on a wide array of patient populations including infants, pediatrics, adolescent, adults and geriatrics. Some of the most common diagnoses treated are chronic heart failure, pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder, stroke, gastritis, chest pain, urinary tract infection, transient ischemic attack (mini stroke), bronchitis, asthma and diabetes. As of 2009, the average working experience of the nurses at NMMC-Iuka is 17 years each.

Emergency Services


NMMC-Iuka offers 24-hour emergency services. The Emergency Department is staffed by well-equipped, highly qualified nurses and physicians. Emergency air ambulance services are readily available for critical care transport when needed. In addition, NMMC-Iuka offers paramedic-level ambulance services.

Outpatient services include physical therapy, occupational therapy, laboratory, radiology, respiratory care, infusion, wound care and cardiac monitoring.

Rehabilitation Services


The Rehabilitation Services Department is staffed by registered physical therapists and physical therapist assistants. The department, which is located inside the hospital, provides outpatient rehabilitation, occupational therapy, acute care and swing bed, among other services. Outpatient Specialty Clinic


The Outpatient Specialty Clinic, which is located on the hospital campus, hosts physician specialists in urology, pulmonology and orthopedics. For more information on outpatient specialty clinic services or to make an appointment, call (662) 423-6147. Hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

Sleep Disorders Center


The mission of NMMC-Iuka’s Sleep Disorders Center is to combine excellent clinical skill and the best technology to provide cost effective and high quality sleep diagnosis and therapeutic plans to support NMMC’s mission of improving the health of the people in our region. The Center is fully accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

Ancillary Services


NMMC-Iuka’s Radiology Department is staffed by board-certified radiologists and registered radiologic technologists. Radiology services include echocardiogram, holter monitoring, diagnostic radiology, nuclear medicine, ultrasound, mobile mammography (twice a month), MRI, bone density and computerized tomography (CT). The department is accredited by the American College of Radiology and the Food and Drug Administration. For more information on the Radiology Department, call (662) 423-4518.

A wide array of chemistry, bacteriology, blood bank and drug testing is available 24 hours daily in the hospital’s Laboratory, which is Joint Commission accredited. The lab is also certified by DATIA to perform Department of Transportation drug screen collections. Industrial drug screen collections are also provided for pre-employment and post-accident testing. Pharmacy services are provided to hospital inpatients and employees.

The Respiratory Therapy Department at NMMC-Iuka is staffed by licensed respiratory therapists who perform all respiratory support services, including ventilator procedures, arterial blood gases, pulmonary function tests, EEGs, BIPAP/CPAP, smoking cessation and asthma consults. In addition, the department does one-on-one teaching for peak flow meters and inhaler instruction. The department also offers spirometry testing and pulmonary function testing for area industries.

Community Outreach


In addition to caring for the sick, NMMC-Iuka’s role as a health care provider includes educating people to maintain good health through the NMMC Live Well community health initiative. The professional staff provides outreach programs on health education, industrial medicine and preventive services throughout the service area.

Community outreach projects include informative health seminars and screenings. A variety of classes cover such topics as CPR, first aid, heart health, cancer and diabetes education, nutrition and others. While some programs are sponsored solely by NMMC-Iuka, others reflect collaborative efforts with other interested parties such as employers, area schools and organizations.

As a service to the community, Prepared Childbirth Classes and a Diabetes Support Group are available at NMMC-Iuka.
