North Mississippi Medical Center-Hamilton is a not-for-profit, 49-bed acute care hospital affiliated with one of the nation’s leading health care organizations.

North Mississippi Medical Center-Hamilton has a 79-bed Nursing Home, a Home Health Joint Venture with The LHC Group, and a Wellness Center in Hamilton, Ala. 

The hospital campus also includes Hamilton Primary Care Center and the Outpatient Specialty Clinic.

Medical Staff

One of our greatest strengths is the quality of our medical staff. The medical staff offers specialists in family practice, internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics and radiology.


Surgeons utilize two operating suites for a wide array of services, including general surgery, ophthalmological and ENT.

Laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery are also available. Same Day Surgery features 10 designated beds for outpatient surgery.

The hospital also has 10 certified swing beds for patients who need extended care.

Emergency & Outpatient Services

North Mississippi Medical Center-Hamilton offers 24-hour emergency services. The Emergency Department is staffed by well-equipped, highly qualified physicians, nurse practitioners and nurses. Emergency air ambulance services are readily available for critical care transport.

Outpatient services include same-day surgery, physical therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, laboratory and cardiac monitoring. Cardiac stress tests and holter monitoring are also offered.

Rehabilitation Services

The Rehabilitation Services Department is staffed by registered physical therapists and physical therapist assistants, occupational therapists and occupational therapist assistants, and speech-language pathologists. This department, which is located inside the hospital, provides outpatient rehabilitation, acute care, swing bed and pediatric rehabilitation, among other services. Swing Bed


North Mississippi Medical Center-Hamilton’s Swingbed Program is designed to transition patients from an acute care setting to their home setting. Our therapists strive to return patients to the highest level of independence possible. The Swingbed Program is used for:


  • Patients who have had surgery (ex. hip or knee replacement)
  • Patients recovering from a stroke who are returning home soon
  • Patients who need additional care and rehabilitation before returning home after a debilitating illness
  • Swingbed placement is contingent upon physician approval, rehabilitation potential, available beds and other factors.
  • Services offered every weekday include:
  • Private Rooms
  • Physical therapy
  • Occupational therapy
  • Speech therapy
  • Respiratory Therapy
  • Dialysis for Chronic Established Patients

Outpatient Specialty Clinic

Outpatient Specialty Clinic, located on the hospital campus, the offers appointments with physicians specializing in audiology, ENT, gynecology and general surgery. For more information or to make an appointment, call (205) 921-6395. Hours are 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Ancillary Services

The hospital's Radiology Department is staffed by board-certified radiologists and technologists. Radiology services include echocardiogram, nuclear medicine, ultrasound, mammography, MRI, bone density and computerized tomography (CT). The department is accredited by the American College of Radiologists and by the Food and Drug Administration. For more information on the Radiology Department, call (205) 921-6280.

A wide array of chemistry, bacteriology, blood bank and drug testing is available 24 hours daily in the hospital’s Laboratory, which is Joint Commission accredited. The lab is also certified by DATIA to perform DOT drug screen collections. Industrial drug screen collections are also provided for pre-employment and post-accident testing. Pharmacy services are provided to hospital inpatients and employees.

The Respiratory Therapy Department is staffed by Alabama Licensed respiratory therapists who perform all respiratory support services, including ventilator procedures, cardiac stress tests and holter monitoring. The department also offers spirometry testing and pulmonary function testing for area industries, in addition to providing services for the long-term care facility.

Community Outreach

North Mississippi Medical Center-Hamilton also recognizes the importance of promoting good health through education. Community outreach projects include informative health seminars and screenings. A variety of classes cover such topics as CPR, first aid, heart health, cancer and diabetes education, nutrition and others.

Volunteer Opportunities


Individuals 18 years and older are welcome to volunteer at North Mississippi Medical Center-Hamilton. Volunteers may work in clinical areas, assist with patient and visitor comfort, and perform clerical duties. Volunteers work with the volunteer coordinator to set their work hours. Most work at least four hours per week, but there is no minimum requirement. Some volunteers who have limited time offer to help with special projects and events. Click here for a volunteer application.
