Educational Programs

As an employee of NMHS, you will be encouraged to advance in your career and to enhance your job performance. As incentive, NMHS has developed several educational and academic programs designed to help you grow professionally.

New Employee Orientation

New Employee Orientation is a comprehensive program designed to welcome new employees, familiarize them with our mission, vision, and values, connect them to our culture of patient- and family-centered care, and meet all initial educational requirements. New employees benefit from a variety of speakers representing various areas of the organization and are provided with the information and tools needed for a successful career as part of the NMHS team.

The program consists of New Employee Orientation and Culture Day. NEO is the employee’s first day of employment and includes employee benefit information and all mandatory educational requirements for various accrediting and licensing agencies. Culture Day provides new employees their first glimpse into the culture of NMHS. Topics include mission, vision, C.A.R.E.S. values, critical success factors, behavioral standards, and patient- and family-centered care.


This program is hosted by the NMHS Education Department and is held in the Education Center at North Mississippi Medical Center-Tupelo.
All full and part-time employees are required to attend New Employee Orientation and Culture Day. PRN employees may complete New Employee Orientation online and attend Culture Day.

Departmental Orientation

In addition to the Orientation program required of all new NMHS employees, you will participate in a comprehensive departmental orientation program. These programs are designed to acquaint you with NMHS policies and procedures and to familiarize you with the facilities and equipment.

Continuing Education Programs

NMHS is committed to helping you meet your continuing education requirements. Through affiliations and by being a provider unit of nursing, continuing medical education (CME), and multiple other allied health professions, NMHS offers a variety of approved CE programs to employees at all NMHS facilities.

The programs are provided on a variety of topics appropriate for your area of expertise. Continuing education programs are provided through live classes, conferences, and the HealthStream® Learning Center.

HealthStream Learning Center


HealthStream Learning Center offers an extended list of continuing education and inservice activities which help employees meet their educational requirements. It offers computer-based training (CBT), webinars, and class activity in over 50 clinical specialty areas and regulatory inservices which meet annual regulatory requirements.

Academic Reimbursement

NMHS's academic reimbursement program allows employees to advance their education. You may apply for academic reimbursement after one year of full-time employment. With the appropriate prior approval, you may be reimbursed for academic coursework.

Certification Reimbursement

NMHS's certification reimbursement program allows employees to pursue certification in clinical specialties after one year of full-time employment with the appropriate approval. You may be reimbursed for the examination fee for one initial certification by the NMHS Education Department to start you on your pathway to learning at our organization!

Clinical ADVANCE Program

ADVANCE is a new and exciting program which recognizes and rewards increasing levels of clinical nursing expertise and commitment to patient care. As a bedside nurse at NMMC, you can now rise to the top and increase your earnings. This program allows the bedside nurse to continue on the journey of lifelong learning and “ADVANCE” while remaining in direct patient care.
